What do door to door canvassers and telemarketers have in common? They all want to sell you something or make you the deal of a lifetime. Most often with stories that sound way too good to be true. I’m not talking about the local soccer team doing a bottle drive, or the Heart and Stroke foundation calling on you. I’m talking about those energy distribution companies that want to take over your hot water tank rental agreement or your gas delivery contract by telling you that you’re wasting your money and they can save you money.
I was thinking about cancelling my home phone due to the fact the only people that call on our home phone are telemarketers. I was wondering if there was anything you could say to them to make them give up and leave.
I thought and thought and came up with calling them by name… Rumpelstiltskin! You know the fairy tale story about Rumpelstiltskin? If not read it here.
I think that everyone should just say one word to a door to door canvasser or telemarketer… Just say “Rumpelstiltskin!” and close the door or hang up.
Spread the word to everyone on Facebook and Twitter, make it go viral and when everyone starts doing this around the country they will have to find another way to sell their product or service without hassling you at home by ringing your bell at dinner time.
Knock Knock… who’s there? Rumpelstiltskin we don’t want any, Rumpelstiltskin go away!
